North West Orienteering Club (NWOC) is hosting an event on Sunday 17 March that doubles as the JWOC Trial Long and a Public Event. The event will be on the Hedley Farm Map, accessed from Slater Road, South Head.

For the Public Race there are 8 courses; meaning there is a course suitable for all abilities.

  • Courses Red 1/Red 2/Red 3/ Red 4 all offer technical and difficult orienteering. 
  • Purple (Red 5) is a technical but physically easier course - especially suited to experienced older orienteers
  • Orange - Medium difficulty
  • Yellow - Easy course, with controls on or near tracks and prominent line features. Recommended for first time orienteers. 
  • White - Very easy orienteering with controls on tracks and prominent features.

Note - the terrain includes some steep farmland. There is a 1.9km uphill walk to the start.  We will provide a shuttle service for older people and the very young. Gear return from the start will also be provided if this is necessary due to the weather. The reward for the steep climb will be spectacular with views from the Kaipara Harbour to the Tasman sea!

Start Times & Course Closure

  • JWOC trialists will start from 10am. Start order is here  Note this order has been updated at 4.45pm on Saturday 16 March. 
  • Public competitors will start from 11.15am. Last start will be 12.30pm. Competitors on Red 1 & 2 courses are asked to start as soon as possible after 11.15am please. 
  • Course Closure will be 2.30pm

 JWOC triallists are responsible for their own entry. 

DOGS allowed at Event Centre and on White & Yellow courses ONLY.

Driving Instructions

The event will be signposted from the Slater Road/South Head intersection.

From Auckland, take the Northwestern Motorway/SH16 towards Helensville. At the roundabout just before Helensville, turn left towards Parakai. Continue straight through the township and a further 9km along South Head Road until you reach Slater Road. Turn LEFT into Slater Road and LEFT again at the marked driveway.  Follow the signs to the Event Centre. Please drive slowly and take care on the narrow one lane driveway/track.

Parking

Please park as directed by the Parking Marshal. Parking will be in a paddock.
