What Membership Involves

NWOC operates on a shared-responsibility model. That means members contribute in small, manageable ways across the season. Money earned by running events is then redistributed to the members who operate events and coordinate business behind the scenes. This is a sustainable model that allows us to run NZ's largest events, avoids volunteer burnout and promotes engagement and connection between members.

Most members 16 years and older will help once or twice with simple event-day jobs like registration, set up and pack up. Members aged 15 and under are not rostered for any jobs. New members will always be rostered alongside experienced leaders and coordinators and will never be given unexpected responsibilty or need prerequisite knowledge. Very few jobs require specialist orienteering knowledge and new members will fit right in with our friendly team.

When everyone contributes a little, no one carries too much, and the team can thrive.
